Team 205's School Forest Movie is posted at http://schoolforestcampout2010.blogspot.com If you would like to access the linked site, please send me an email.
The School Forest Movie literally began a day before our camp
out when a kid said that he wanted photos so he could remember the
trip. At the camp out, kids shared two classroom cameras and took about
500 photos. I took 250 photos myself.
Back at school the
following Monday, kids viewed the final cut of 300 photos and, through
conversation, organized the camp out into 25 different episodes. Kids
then chose an episode that they wanted to write about for our School
Forest Movie Project.
Kids used the "writing system." They
created a web as a plan. They conferenced "kid to kid" and with me to
develop and revise the details of their plan. They used their plans to
write a rough draft in their Writer's Notebook. They, again,
conferenced "kid to kid" and with me to revise and edit their draft.
Prior
to publishing, kids defined "standards" for reading aloud and practiced
reading with expressive voice with their teammates. Kids published
their work by recording aloud using Windows Movie Maker and a
microphone.
To celebrate the release of our movie, we invited
Lapham staff for an exclusive viewing. Two preschool classes, a
kindergarten, and a first grade class attended. Room 205 had "standing
room only!"
